Wayne County Senior Expo Connects Seniors to Services

Wayne County’s inaugural Senior Expo is set for Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Waynesboro Middle School starting at 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The event is free to the public. Vendors with a focus on senior needs will be on hand to answer questions and introduce Wayne County residents to services available.

“We believe our seniors comprise a significant part of Wayne County’s population, and we wanted to host an event geared to their needs and interests,” said a spokesman for the Expo. “We want it to be a fun day and for people to leave the event with information that is helpful.”

Throughout the event, sponsors will give away door prizes. The mid-day lunch is free and will offer attendees the chance to hear from Attorney Paul B. Plant, who is recognized for his law-practice emphasis on elder care issues. Mr. Plant, who is well-known for his Eye on ElderCare blog spot,, often tells clients that if they live long enough, “we will meet again.” He is one of a few elder care attorneys in the state and the only elder care attorney in the Wayne County area. Look for him to talk about Medicaid issues, the need for estate planning along with other topics.

Another highlight of the day is entertainment from Marvin and Vernell Morrow. Many are familiar with the harmonies that highlight the “singing on the Farm Event” that is hosted in Wayne County. Mr. Morrow will also serve as emcee and host of the event.

Published reports commissioned by the National Institute on Aging (NIA) claims the world’s senior population is expected to grow to around 17 percent by the year 2050. But just because the senior population is growing does not mean that seniors are not doing their part. In Wayne County, many seniors drive volunteer efforts after their “retirement.” Many describe post retirement as “the busiest time of life.”

Approximately 20 local Wayne County businesses will serve as sponsors for the event.
